As a mentee, you'll meet weekly with an experienced chess player to build skill, confidence, and strategic understanding. You'll also get access to our in-person lectures, camps, tournaments, and special events. When you join NYCCC, you join a supportive community of peers and mentors who love chess and learning.
Eligibility Requirements:
Enrolled in a public/charter elementary or middle school in New York City (exceptions made for private school students on financial aid)
As a mentor, you'll sharpen your chess and teaching skills while making a real impact. Opportunities include virtual tutoring, in-person camps, partner events, Central Park lectures, and new school outreach. We offer mentors a particularly flexible time commitment, which can range from 1 to 4 hours of tutoring per week. We offer community-service hours and cancertify the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) via AmeriCorps.
